To create a marketplace that combines products from the smallest to largest online and in-store through personalised recommendations, AtHashtags had to overcome significant obstacles like proximity, payment, inventory and fulfilment especially for the smaller unique brands, give big brands a good reason to sell on the same platform as smaller, less recognised brands with less inventory and smaller reach.
Shopping, especially making payment online and in-store are rarely ever seamless. Shopper behaviour is ever changing, to fully understand it, one must be able to get the complete overview of their shopping actions to better understand them and make suitable recommendations to meet their needs. The best way to get this overview is to understand and unify their shopping habits online, offline, with small brands and large brands, locally and if possible globally into a seamless function like a push of a button or search and personalised recommendation.
Payments have been impossible to combine online and offline with some of the biggest payment platforms offering debit/credit cards to their customers to be able to converge their online and offline spending. This is still not good enough as it limits the customer to one payment platform and still a pain having to reach for their cards for every offline purchase.
It has so far been impossible to combine products from small and big brands available online and in-store into one marketplace. By combining small and big brands, all retail can potentially be catalogued so that everything a shopper needs to buy online, and in-store can be found and purchased in one place.
